Week #1

March 7th, 2006

First thing Wednesday I met up with my collegaues from the US in the morning to grab a bite and learn to take the “tube” into work.  Gail tells us that it is common practice to close one’s eyes before crossing the street.  She is demonstrating here.

American Furball in London

March 6th, 2006
I arrived in London on February 28th, relatively well-rested considering the 10 hours in the air from Los Angeles.  Customs was mercifully uneventful, as was the cab ride and hotel check in.  England may be extrordinarily expensive, but it’s not terribly hard to navigate as an American.  I changed a few dollars into Pounds, found my way to the cab stand and got myself into the hotel and into a shower within two hours of landing.  Not bad, really.
My room, it seems, has a sort of, private elevator about 10 feet from the door.  All things equal, it’s quite a nice setup.  I took a terrible first London picture of me getting into the “lift”.
My own private lift! (almost)
Once settled and unpacked, I headed off to Tottenham Court Road for my first UK adventure of this trip.
